As we look ahead, we must address these issues while preserving the character and quality of life that make our city special. I believe in a vision that balances growth with community needs, focusing on practical solutions that work for everyone.<\/p><h2>Housing That Works for All<\/h2><ul><li><p class=\"my-0\">Champion missing middle housing development including townhomes and small-scale multifamily homes<\/p><\/li><li><p class=\"my-0\">Support first-time homebuyer opportunities and programs preventing housing displacement<\/p><\/li><li><p class=\"my-0\">Work to remove barriers for affordable housing development while preserving existing affordable options<\/p><\/li><li><p class=\"my-0\">Update zoning to encourage diverse housing types that maintain neighborhood character<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p>When I talk about updating zoning, I am committed to preserving the character of our established neighborhoods. This means focusing any zoning reviews and potential development primarily along key transportation corridors, like North Main, South Main and the Sugar Mill area.<\/p><p class=\"my-2 [&amp;+p]:mt-4 [&amp;_strong:has(+br)]:inline-block [&amp;_strong:has(+br)]:pb-2\">These corridors are ideal locations to thoughtfully allow new types of housing and business growth that support a vibrant local economy and community life, while minimizing impact on existing residential areas. The goal is to balance growth with respect for neighborhood identity, ensuring changes enhance Longmont without compromising what residents value most.<\/p><h2>Smart Transportation Solutions<\/h2><ul><li><p class=\"my-0\">Support proven congestion reduction strategies that have shown up to 52% decrease in traffic delays<\/p><\/li><li><p class=\"my-0\">Embrace innovative solutions like RIDE Longmont for affordable, flexible transportation<\/p><\/li><li><p class=\"my-0\">Advance the CO 119 BRT project to improve regional connectivity<\/p><\/li><li><p class=\"my-0\">Implement neighborhood traffic mitigation programs that protect residential areas<\/p><\/li><\/ul><h2>Supporting Local Business Growth<\/h2><ul><li><p class=\"my-0\">Expand business support beyond downtown to all Longmont neighborhoods<\/p><\/li><li><p class=\"my-0\">Partner with local organizations to provide resources for small business development<\/p><\/li><li><p class=\"my-0\">Preserve Longmont&#8217;s unique character by supporting independent businesses<\/p><\/li><li><p class=\"my-0\">Reduce barriers for new and existing small businesses to thrive<\/p><\/li><li><p class=\"my-0\">Create opportunities for businesses outside the LDDA to flourish<\/p><\/li><\/ul><h2>Preserving Our Community Character<\/h2><ul><li><p class=\"my-0\">Maintain Longmont&#8217;s unique identity while accommodating thoughtful growth<\/p><\/li><li><p class=\"my-0\">Protect our cherished views and open spaces<\/p><\/li><li><p class=\"my-0\">Support local businesses outside downtown to ensure city-wide economic vitality<\/p><\/li><li><p class=\"my-0\">Implement Vision Zero strategies to create safer streets for everyone<\/p><\/li><\/ul><p class=\"my-0\">The lack of starter homes in Longmont has reached a critical point, with new developments like True North aiming to address this gap by offering homes in the mid-$300Ks to mid-$400Ks range. As Chair of Boulder County\u2019s \u00a0Community Action Program Board and member of the Transportation Advisory Board, I bring proven leadership experience and a deep understanding of our community\u2019s needs. I&#8217;m working to expand these opportunities so more families can achieve the dream of homeownership in our community.<\/p><p class=\"my-0\">By working together, we can create a Longmont that remains affordable and accessible while preserving what makes our city special.
