Alex Kalkhofer for Longmont City Council

Building a Strong Longmont for All

I’m excited to announce my candidacy for Longmont City Council. As Chair of the Community Action Program Board, member of the Transportation Advisory Board, and an active community member, I’m committed to shaping a vibrant and inclusive future for our city.

My Vision for Longmont

Housing That Works for All

  • Champion missing middle housing development including townhomes, duplexes, and small-scale multifamily homes

  • Support first-time homebuyer opportunities and programs preventing housing displacement

  • Work to remove barriers for affordable housing development while preserving existing affordable options

  • Advocate for innovative projects like True North that offer attainable homeownership opportunities

Smart Transportation Solutions

  • Support proven congestion reduction strategies that decrease traffic delays

  • Embrace innovative solutions for affordable, flexible transportation

  • Advance regional connectivity projects

  • Implement neighborhood traffic mitigation programs that protect residential areas

Supporting Local Business Growth

  • Expand business support beyond downtown to all Longmont neighborhoods

  • Partner with local organizations to provide resources for small business development

  • Preserve Longmont’s unique character by supporting independent businesses

  • Reduce barriers for new and existing small businesses to thrive

Preserving Our Community Character

  • Maintain Longmont’s unique identity while accommodating thoughtful growth

  • Protect our community spirit

  • Support local businesses to ensure city-wide economic vitality

  • Implement Vision Zero strategies to create safer streets for everyone

The lack of starter homes in Longmont has reached a critical point, with new developments like True North aiming to address this gap. As your council member, I’ll work to expand these opportunities so more families can achieve the dream of homeownership in our community.

Why I’m Running

Longmont needs leadership that understands the challenges facing our community. With my experience serving on multiple city boards and my background in supply chain management, I bring practical problem-solving skills to address issues like our housing affordability crisis, where the median home price of $575,000 remains out of reach for many families.

I believe in a collaborative approach that brings together residents, businesses, and government to create solutions that work for everyone. By filing my candidate affidavit today, I’m taking the first official step toward serving our community on City Council.
